Self-Care September – Tip #3: Remember Wellness

“Remembered wellness” is a phrase first coined by Dr. Herbert Benson.  It emphasizes the fact that being well is our natural state.   This is good news.  The body and mind are always seeking wellness and equilibrium.  We can easily help our physiology to remember wellness through a twenty-minute mindfulness break.

…..In fact I can’t ever remember saying to myself “I really regret that twenty minutes of exercise” or “I really regret the twenty-minute break I took to calm my nervous system”

So often we turn away from things  that make us feel well.  We downplay the benefit of walking around the block, chatting with a loved one, staring at the ocean.

I’m about to step outside to run around the block a few times.  I doubt I’ll regret it.  In fact I can’t ever remember saying to myself “I really regret that twenty minutes of exercise” or “I really regret the twenty-minute break I took to calm my nervous system”

How can you remember wellness today? Take some time to think (and act on) your personal wellness recipe.
